While a visit
to any health food store will convince you that there are a vast number
of things you can do, there are a few that will provide
the most immediate and far-reaching benefits.
1. Correct
your body's pH. Why?
Your
pH level has profound effects on all body chemistry, health and
disease. An imbalanced pH (either consistently too acid or alkaline) leads
to the progression of most, if not all, degenerative diseases. The management
of "pH" is so important that the body has developed procedures to monitor
acid-alkaline balances in every cell.
Fundamentally,
all regulatory mechanisms (including breathing, circulation, digestion,
hormonal production, etc.) serve the purpose of balancing pH, by removing
acid residues from body tissues without damaging living cells. If the pH
deviates too far to the acid side or too far to the alkaline side, cells
become poisoned by their own toxic waste and die. Often, those wastes also
prevent us from absorbing the nutrients our body needs to rebuild and repair
itself.
Over 150 diseases
are linked to a low pH, including cancer, arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis,
diabetes, high blood pressure, allergies, as well as the never ending frustration
of excessive weight gain, and many, many more!
Yet most of
the foods we eat tend to make our system more acidic, the exception being
most fruits and vegetables. Here's one example:
Most
soft drinks have a pH of two. Keep in mind that a drop in every point
on the pH scale is 10 times more acidic, 7 to 6 is 10 times, 7 to 5 is
100 times and so on. So soft drinks are 100,000 times more acidic than
your body needs to operate at its best! It takes 32 glasses
of alkaline water with a pH of 10 to neutralize the acid from one 12 oz.
Cola!
The best way to
counteract this problem is a good source of calcium. The body uses calcium
to neutralize acid. If you aren't getting enough calcium in your
diet to buffer the acid, your body will take it from all other body fluids
allowing them to become acidic. Once your body fluids are depleted
of calcium, your body will then steal it from your bones.
One additional
fact - when the body becomes acidic, oxygen is driven out of the body.
Your blood must maintain at an alkaline pH 7.4 so it can retain its oxygen,
which brings us to the next factor.
2. Increase
oxygen. Why?
Of
all the elements that support life for human beings, oxygen is the most
important. Without it we would all perish within minutes. Human beings
can go without food for more than 40 days, water for 3 to 5 days, but without
oxygen, you cannot live for more than 5 minutes.
In 1932 Otto
Warburg won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery that cancer was
anaerobic: cancer occurs in the absence of free oxygen. As innocuous as
this discovery might seem, it is actually a startling and significant finding
worthy of a Nobel Prize. What it basically means is that cancer is caused
by a lack of free oxygen in the body and therefore, whatever causes this
to occur is the cause of all cancers. This lack of oxygen is a major factor
not only in cancer, but a host of other degenerative diseases, such as
heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, lupus, etc.
Many types
of treatment which involve various ways of getting more oxygen into the
system have been explored as a result of this fact. Fortunately, whatever
steps you take to balance your pH levels will also help your oxygen levels.
Additional options will be discussed in the upcoming pages.
3. Supply a
usable
form of water. Why?
While
we all learned in school that the body is mostly water, and many of us
know that a lot of our ailments are simply the result of dehydration, what
we probably didn't hear is that the water you drink is not in the molecular
form your cells require. Before water can pass through your cell membranes,
the body must convert it to H3O.OH from the common H2O form.
As our bodies
accumulate waste residues from poor diet and environmental factors, that
conversion process gets progressively less efficient.
4. Provide
essential nutrients. Why?
Obviously,
your body needs the proper building materials to repair damaged parts and
restore optimum functioning, but as we saw on the previous page, a lot
of
those elements are now totally missing from our food supply.
Additionally, many are being depleted by the body's efforts to cope with
all the extra environmental toxins we're exposed to. So at a time when
we require extra, we're often getting none.
Adding to the
dilemma here is the fact that research has shown that, with only a few
exceptions, there is only one isotope of most elements that the body can
actually use. So while many people have started taking nutrtional supplements,
a high percentage of those supplements have little or no bioavailability,
i.e. your body can't use them in the form they are being taken.
So where you're
getting them form is just as important as what you're taking.
5. Strengthen
your immune system. Why?
As
the whole antibiotic obsession has unfolded, instead of seeing less disease,
we've seen more terrifying and resistant strains of disease organisms.
Is the answer more and stronger forms of antibiotic?
I don't think
so. I think the evidence is clearly telling us we've been going in the
wrong direction. I think your best insurance policy for health in the future
will be a strengthening of your own immune system.
6. Inner Work.
Why?
All
the above address health issues at the physical level, but don't necessarily
address the cause. There are emotions, habits, beliefs, etc., that are
nearly always at work before we ever develop physical symptoms.
Those are the real causes of most health issues and unless they are addressed,
physical issues will seldom resolve permanently.
Next, let's
take a look at some recommended ways to implement these health essentials
